In a rapidly advancing technological landscape, connectivity has become essential, particularly in regions where geographical challenges complicate network development. The Caribbean’s strategic geographic location emphasizes its need for robust and reliable internet services. Recognizing this, Global Caribbean Network (GCN) partnered with Ekinops to address these needs by upgrading GCN’s subsea cable systems. This collaboration utilized the Ekinops360 WDM platform, featuring the innovative FlexRate™ technology. The task was far from straightforward, as it involved enhancing vital yet underserved routes in the Guadeloupe area, which spanned staggering distances exceeding 350 kilometers. These unique circumstances presented significant optical challenges that Ekinops successfully overcame. The project’s core objective was to ensure the new infrastructure efficiently supported bandwidth from 10G to 100G, catering to the burgeoning demand for high-speed internet services crucial to the region’s development.
Ekinops’ Role in Network Transformation
The engagement of Ekinops with GCN was propelled by the need to fulfill a public service contract, aiming to eventually restore network control back to Guadeloupe’s regional government. A modern, durable network capable of future expansions was essential, and Ekinops stepped up with their advanced technological solutions. Key to this upgrade were the 400FRS04-SF module, ROADMs, and low-noise amplifiers, which enhanced network reliability and performance. Choosing Ekinops was a calculated decision, reflecting their capacity to meet stringent requirements both swiftly and efficiently. Their solutions proved superior, even surpassing the specialized submarine systems typically employed in such infrastructures. This collaboration underscored Ekinops’ prowess in deploying innovative telecom solutions, contributing significantly to the modernization of essential communication systems in strategic regions. Axel Adenet from GCN expressed satisfaction with Ekinops’ cooperative strategy, highlighting the importance of utilizing a French provider to maintain regional and national interests.
