US President Joe Biden signed a sweeping executive order involving multiple government agencies that seeks to protect Americans’ sensitive personal data from exploitation by barring data brokers from selling that sensitive information to a list of US adversaries, most prominently China. In announcing the order, entitled Preventing Access to Americans’ Bulk Sensitive Personal Data and U.S. Government-Related Data by Countries of Concern, the White House said that “companies are collecting more of Americans’ data than ever before, and it is often legally sold and resold through data brokers.
