The network frequently achieved download speeds exceeding 80Mbps and sustained upload speeds of 20Mbps, figures that rival many terrestrial broadband services. Market Rollout and Lingering Challenges

With the network now officially live, the company has positioned itself for a rapid and significant market rollout, aiming to capitalize on its technological lead. A key factor facilitating this swift deployment is the fact that over 450 aircraft are already pre-provisioned with the necessary 5G-compatible hardware, which streamlines the activation process for a substantial portion of the existing customer fleet. A schedule for widespread activations on these prepared planes is set to commence in January 2026, indicating an aggressive strategy to establish a strong market presence. However, this technological achievement was realized against a complex legal backdrop. The company recently contended with an unfavorable verdict in a patent dispute initiated by competitor SmartSky. While Gogo confirmed its intention to appeal the court’s decision, the legal challenge introduced an element of uncertainty into the competitive landscape, even as the new 5G service prepared to redefine inflight connectivity standards for the industry.
